The Tarptent Stratospire Ultra (Mesh Interior) is a larger and stronger version of the classic Stratospire Li. It has a lower fly edge and a longer, wider interior that will fit two long/wide pads. The Stratospire Ultra has a low-drag shape that holds up great in windy conditions, requires six stakes, has a double-wall construction, and sports two doors, vestibules, and vents. It’s designed to be set up with trekking poles, but Tarptent offers an optional pole set for those traveling without them. The Stratospire Ultra weighs in at 1,125 grams with stakes, bags, struts, mesh interior, and apex guy lines.
The new UltraTNT fabric from Challenge Sailcloth is a three-ply laminate designed specifically for high-performance tarps and tents. The team at Tarptent partnered with Challenge Sailcloth on the development of the fabric over the last year and a half, and they are the first to release three tents made from the new material. The fabric can also be fully bonded at the seams meaning these tents are fully seam-taped for 100% waterproof tents.
You will need: 2 x trekking poles that extend to 120 cm or Carbon PolyPole V2 poles.

Is the StratoSpire Ultra fully waterproof?
Yes, it is fully seam-taped and fully waterproof. Ultra TNT has a hydrostatic pressure rating of over 140,000 mm. (Yes it really is over 140,000mm. It is rated to 200psi+)
Do I need trekking poles for general use?
No, trekking poles are what most people use as you are likely already carrying them but fixed and adjustable subsutuite vertical poles are available. We recommend a length of ~ 48in / 122cm for the StratoSpire Ultra.
Do I need to put the fly up and then the interior?
No, the two parts clip together and setup or takedown as a single unit. It is easy to unclip the interior from inside if desired.
Can I use this for winter?
Yes, The structure will withstand snow loading and sheds snow well. We recommend using extra guy-lines and clearing off snow build up periodically. The optional solid interior is also recommended for additional warmth in cold winds or blowing snow.
Can I use wide pads?
Yes, the floor is 53″ / 135 cm wide and accepts two wide (25″) pads easily.
Can I stuff the StratoSpire Ultra to make it smaller?
You can easily remove the 4 carbon fiber struts to reduce the packed length, but we highly recommend rolling or folding, not stuffing, to extend the fabric lifespan.
Do I need a footprint?
Use of a groundsheet depends on the conditions you expect to encounter and your style of camping. The 20D Nylon flooring is tough for ultralight material and does not usually require a separate groundsheet as long as the ground is clear of sharp objects. However, it is not invulnerable and we recommend a groundsheet for exceptionally sharp campsites. We sell optional Tyvek groundsheets which are very tough and great for sleeping out or taking a break, but generally heavier than you need for floor protection in most conditions. A groundsheet is recommended for extended use on very rocky ground and/or desert conditions to reduce abrasion on the floor.
Can the StratoSpire Ultra Fly fit other StratoSpire interiors?
Yes, the fly fits the StratoSpire 1 and StratoSpire Li interiors if the interior straps are extended. It also fits the StartoSpire 2 interior, but the interior will not tension properly if pitched super low with the fly edge to the ground.
