So your heading into the backcountry, your gonna get alittle smelly…
Gossamer Gear Vagabond Packable
The Gossamer Gear Vagabond Packable is an ultralight packable daypack that can fit in your luggage (or even your pocket) that compresses into its own pouch. Although the Vagabond Packable is nowhere near as small or light as the Sea to Summit Ultra-Sil Day Packs its still very packable with many of the pockets and features you’d expect in a regular backpack.
Packable Day packs are great if you want to leave your Tramping pack at a hut or campsite and bag a peak or explore some other tracks. They are also good for travel when you need something smaller for sightseeing and fit inside your main bags on travel days.
Most packable day packs only have one main compartment and flimsier shoulder straps. The Vagabond Packable has all the features of a good day pack such as front and side mesh pockets for water bottles and a jacket, Shoulder strap pockets for phone or small camera, front zippered pocket, and sternum strap.. Theres also a single side compression strap on one side which could be useful if using an umbrella and daisy chain lashing if you wanted to add some extra lashing. The design is a top loading style with a single zipper in the top like a tote bag and the tote theme continues with two webbing top handles. It loads easily and the design allows slipping this under an airplane seat with nothing escaping from the main compartment.
This pack is made of 70D Robic nylon fabric and stretch mesh pockets. It is rated at 23 liters overall capacity and weighs 309g on my digital scales. It is robust enough for everyday carry and wilderness day hiking. Gossamer Gear knows how to make comfortable yet ultralight shoulder straps and I was impressed with the straps on this pack.
There is a sleeve inside which Gossamer gear says will fit a 16″ Macbook Pro and also doubles as a reservoir sleeve with a hang loop. However if you wish to use a reservoir with this pack there is no hydration hose port, the only option is to run the hose out the top zipper which wouldn’t be difficult. There is also the option to add a waist belt with pockets (available separately)
Overall I thought this was a great little pack that does what its intended to do well. With the quality finish of this pack I look forward to testing more Gossamer Gear!
