Emailed From Aaron Roozenburg – The back ventilation is an ultralight game changer. After upgrading the rest of my gear to ultralight, I had been reluctant to upgrade from my lightweight pack (Exped Thunder) as the lack of back ventilation of ultralight packs wasn’t appealing, especially as we’re from Australia where tramping/hiking involves hotter temperatures.
We were visiting Nelson and stopped in at the pack gear go store (not intending to buy a pack). Fit was great and had never seen Bonfus’ system before, so made the purchase.
First use the following day on the 4-day Heaphy Track. While not a challenging tramp the rainfall (200mm over 24 hrs) put it through its paces. Harness was very comfortable (I had no issues with the lower cross-brace mentioned in other reviews). No sweaty back and although a small amount of water got into the pack, it was far dryer than my partner’s Durston Kakwa.
The back and side storage was roomy and great, the only downside for me is the lack of belt pockets in comparison with the Durston. I didn’t purchase one at the time and will be getting one in future.
Looking forward to using this on the 14 day Laraplinta later in the year.
